CHOIR

We are a non auditioned choir and encourage adults of all sexual orientations, genders, and singing abilities to come out and sing with us. Share the joy of singing and become a part of a community.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are held in person from 10:00 to 12:00 PM on Saturdays at the Pacific Gardens Co-Housing Community at 347 Seventh Street in Nanaimo. Masks are optional but we encourage anyone who is ill to stay home and watch the livestream of rehearsals. Fall session kicks off September 12 2026 with an orientation and welcome barbecue. New singers can join up until October 24th, space permitting, and can attend 2 free sessions before confirming registration.

REGISTRATION

Due to space issues, we are continuing to cap the number of singers at 50 people for the Fall term. 

New Singers interested in joining AVIVA can click on Registration in top menu bar to sign up. 

If we have a large number of people that we cannot accommodate in the Fall term, the board will consider options for expansion in the Spring term (starting January 2027).

FEES

The costs to participate are per singing term. 2026-27 Costs  are $20 Annual Membership Dues, plus $110 Fall Term Singing Fee (13 weeks) and $150 Spring Term (18 weeks) Singing Fee. We provide installment payments or partial to full subsidies for those who don't have the financial means to pay the full fee. Contact [email protected] for further information on the subsidies

Singing fees each term go towards AVIVA’s music program costs, such as: 

• Chorus Director fees.
• Musicians (including accompanist)
• Rehearsal venue rental. 
• BC Choral Federation membership dues, Unison membership dues, and Nanaimo Sings membership dues. 
• Rehearsal tracks and sheet music rights. 
• Performance Rainbow Scarves and Concert Binders
• Performance (SoCAN) fees

Fees are higher in the second term due to the longer term. With 2 hour rehearsals weekly, plus 1 hour sectional rehearsals once per section for first term, and twice for second term, the total hours singers receive choral instruction time is 27 hours first term and 38 hours second term. This works out to about $4/hour of singing time.

Singing fees do NOT cover the full costs of the singing program, let alone other costs to keep AVIVA going. AVIVA depends on additional revenue generation through donations, grants, sponsorships and fundraising events to keep our fees as small as possible to continue to keep participation accessible.

CONCERTS

AVIVA major concerts are held two times a year: in December and May-June. We also perform in the community, for example Nanaimo Pride Flag Raising. Visit our Events page for more information.
