What is AVIVA

A Vancouver Island Vocal Assembly (AVIVA)

Aviva Chorus is Vancouver Island’s longest-running 2SLGBTQ+ choir. We are a community of people from different backgrounds and experiences who come together to share our joy and passion for singing. We believe in being inclusive and respectful of all people. We choose music that reflects the diversity of various cultures and spiritual practices as well as different sexual orientations and gender identities.

We believe that magic happens when we sing, blend and come together in song, and that this transformative experience leads to further self-awareness and growth. Together, we celebrate and find strength in our differences while creating a safe, accepting and welcoming place for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies.

Over the years since our inception in 2005 we have been a queer presence in Nanaimo and have showcased the best of our community. We have also provided essential social support for many of our members. Some have made life-long friends and have found life partners within our extended ‘family’. Singing with AVIVA is about much more than music alone. When we join together in song our spirits are lifted, our connections deepened and we feel a true sense of belonging.
